Sun, Surf & Sisterhood: Chelsea & Emma's BREATHTAKING Maui Adventure | Extra Mile Club

Welcome back to "1st Look Presents Extra Mile Club: Maui"! We’re picking up right where we left off (watch episode 1 here: https://youtu.be/5ifO8h7obuA) with real-estate and 'Selling Sunset' reality queens Emma Hernan and Chelsea Lazkani as they find themselves torn between Leslie Tillem and Curtis Parris’s personalized and incomparable dream itineraries to Maui. Curtis’s exciting excursions mixed with serene accommodations may have been just a bit counterintuitive because now our girls have a new stressor: deciding which Global Travel Collections luxury travel advisor to go with.

Leslie knows Curtis showed the girls a wonderful time in Maui, but did they receive the authentic Hawaiian experience? Curtis got them acclimated to the island and settled them in quite nicely, but Leslie’s determined to get these girls immersed in the local culture. How? Well, with one of Hawaii’s most relaxing and healing excursions – canoe-surfing, of course! The 'Selling Sunset' beauties are introduced to Tim and Makai from Hawaiian Paddle Sports and are offered a debrief of this water sport. Emma and Chelsea are a package deal, but once they realize what Leslie put them up to, they were no longer seeing eye to eye. Emma’s the outdoor adventurer of the duo and is excited to try something new, especially when it comes to oceanic-based thrills, but Chelsea thinks (wo)manning the boat feels like work, and she refuses to clock in while on vacation. However, once the girls shook off any nerves, they enjoyed catching the Maui waves!

For the next arrangement on the itinerary: the girls reconnect with Kiawe Outdoors's Yeshua and Trish for a misty mountainside cookout on one of Maui’s most iconic and historic ranches, The Ulupalakua. Leslie, who might be losing Chelsea’s interest, may have redeemed herself when Chelsea finds out one of her wishes is coming true: to be able to cook on the island with fresh and local ingredients! Our four chefs prepare a mouth-watering loaf of bread with mango butter and the girls savor this delicious appetizer as the fog clears and makes way for a mesmerizing Hawaiian sunset. For the main course, the four enjoyed sea bass and reflect on some highs and lows of the trip, including what's going on in their personal lives. This moment alone may have been enough for Leslie to win back the hearts of her celebrity clients.

As their time in Maui begins to wrap up, Chelsea’s nerves about going back to real life come to the forefront. Emma, determined to lift her counterpart’s spirit, calls Leslie in hopes of putting together a last-minute surprise. Leslie, our resident genie in a bottle, knows the perfect way to cheer up the girls: horseback riding on the beach, turning one of Emma’s lifelong dreams into a reality. Leslie’s kickoff was rocky, but she truly went above and beyond by helping Emma and Chelsea reconnect with the Earth.

Later, Emma and Chelsea head back to the mainland to debrief their experiences with Leslie and Curtis. After an overwhelmingly positive (and *slightly* constructive) feedback session our leads reach their final decision. Who will win the future business of these Selling Sunset stars: Curtis or Leslie? No spoilers here. Keep watching to find out the final decision!

Selling Sunset's Chelsea & Emma Take Maui: A Girls Trip to Remember! 🌺🌴 | Extra Mile Club Episode 1

In this episode of 'Extra Mile Club,' Emma Hernan and Chelsea Lazkani are putting their NTO (Netflix Time Off) in the hands of Global Travel Collection luxury travel advisors Leslie Tillem and Curtis Parris. With their bold personalities, stylish outfits, and jet-setting lives, it's safe to say the 'Selling Sunset' besties have high expectations when it comes to travel. However, Leslie and Curtis are more than ready to take on the challenge of planning the MOST EPIC getaway for these real-estate beauties. Will they not only plan the perfect vacation but also inspire Emma and Chelsea's perception of luxury travel in the process? The pressure is ON for our agents once Emma and Chelsea choose their dream destination and place the trip planning in the hands of these seasoned experts!

Here's a recap, play by play, of 1st Look Presents Extra Mile Club: Maui episode 1:

Leslie and Curtis don’t agree on much, but when Emma and Chelsea chose Maui as their destination of choice, the agents immediately knew where to start: the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea. The agents demand nothing short of perfection when it comes to catering to their celebrity clients, and they can rest assured that concierges & general experience managers (aka GEMs) Rowena and Daniel will bring their A-game. No matter how impeccable their vision is, the ultimate result depends on the people who help execute it. The BFFs are greeted with beautiful floral leis and Mai Tais cocktails upon arriving to the spectacular resort — which is where HBO's White Lotus series was filmed — and escorted to the exclusive Club Lounge floor, which features spacious suites and a 24/7 lounge equipped with top-tier drinks and snacks. Another plus? Aside from the stellar ocean views from their respective balconies, the luxury travel advisors adorned the rooms with personal touches: Leslie places framed photos of the girls with their loved ones around the room, along with their favorite treats — while Curtis commissioned an artist to sketch custom portraits of them featuring a moment from their Barbie shoot.

A distinct aspect that draws Emma and Chelsea to Maui in particular is the vibrant culture and sense of community, and Curtis has just the plan to immerse them into the local scene. He takes a quick field trip to Hua Momona Farms — a sustainable initiative that has been supplying West Maui with funding and resources to combat food insecurity — to learn the various ways in which the girls can get their hands (and jewelry) dirty. On top of this, an unexpected farm-to-table dinner is planned to thank them for their efforts giving back. While the trailer kitchen on the farm isn’t exactly next level, Chef Zach Laidlaw, Kristin, and their team are beyond talented at the culinary arts — and you can’t get anything fresher without catching it yourself!

Across the island, Leslie is determined to give Emma and Chelsea exactly what they want: sumptuous, over-the-top, and delicious. Yesha and Trish Goodman at Kiawe Outdoor pride themselves on their ability to source hyper-locally and promise top-notch quality for Leslie’s clients.

But hold up! The trip hits an unexpected snag when the island getaway of their dreams turns into Chelsea’s personal nightmare once she realizes she forgot all her swimsuits! And not any old gift shop swimsuit that's available will do. Thankfully, Curtis, our luxury travel agent by day and fashion mogul by night, wins Emma and Chelsea’s hearts by hand-picking bikinis for the pair and sending them to their hotel room. While he makes it all look easy despite the time crunch, behind the scenes he immediately connects with swimsuit designers Puka Swimswear — who specialize in designing and hand-making unique, high-quality swimwear locally on Maui — and they are able to create fresh options exclusively for the girls. With the crisis averted, the girls grab some tasty snacks, hop on a yacht chartered by Ohana Nui Charters Maui and features fresh eats prepared by Chef Zach, and are finally able to kick off their relax vacay in style!

The episode closes with a trip back to Hua Momona Farms where Chef Zach shows Emma and Chelsea the ropes — but they soon find the roles reversed when instead of enjoying a leisurely meal they head to the fields to harvest greens and veggies, which will be used to feed displaced residents from the Lahaina fires in August 2023. Don't worry though! After procuring some honey from the on-site hives and riding around in a tractor, they ultimately get enjoy the fruits of their labor with another delicious meal prepared by Chef Zach, as they reflect on the blissful day, take in a private concert by Jason Arcilla, and anticipate what Leslie has planned for them in the next episode.

Chinatown: At the Margins and the Center

Chinatown is one of Manhattan’s most historic and renowned districts, marked by crowded sidewalk markets selling fresh foods and herbs, colorful lanterns hanging over winding streets, and the largest concentration of Chinese people in the western hemisphere. It’s also been a longtime hub of social justice organizing, which DCTV has proudly documented and supported since our founding in 1972.

Today, Chinatown faces a grave threat: gentrification. In April, May, and June 2024, DCTV and Chinatown Art Brigade joined forces to co-present a screening series, Chinatown: At the Margins and the Center. The series centered around community resistance and resilience in the face of inextricably linked gentrification, displacement and incarceration in New York City’s Chinatown.

Chinatown: At the Margins and the Center included three screenings: Asian American Abolition, NYC Housing Justice - Past and Present, and Chinatown Tenant Organizing. Each event addressed these issues as panelists collaborated with and uplifted the experiences and perspectives of the locals and their communities. Event tickets were offered on a sliding scale for attendees and held on weekend afternoons to ensure that they were accessible to working families. A panel discussion followed each screening, allowing audience members to get involved and contribute to the conversation.

With support from Humanities NY, each film was translated to and subtitled in Chinese (Mandarin and Simplified Chinese). Panel discussions included live interpreters in Chinese and Korean, allowing panelists to participate in their respective languages. Participants learned about the nature of movement-building, and discussed ways they can work together to take a stronger stand against gentrification. The films and discussions encouraged the participants to look to the past, evaluate the present, and inform the future. Within the community, there were some exciting gains: Chinatown Tenants Union (CTU) is now using the films DCTV screened and translated as tools for leadership development training. The event around tenant organizing was intergenerational, allowing people who were involved in these issues in decades’ past to share strategies with those who are working on them today.

This screening series presented a unique opportunity to see Chinese films in a local cinema at a time when all other Chinatown theaters have shuttered. Chinatown: At the Margins and the Center encouraged audiences to make connections between the issues of incarceration, gentrification and housing insecurity. It provided a framework for how to make change in the present day, and uplift local organizing in the Asian-American community against displacement and criminalization. Next for DCTV, we hope to build on these efforts in order to create more inclusive community screenings that make Firehouse Cinema a place where our Chinatown neighbors feel at home.
